Warning: Flashing firmware is risky and you could lose data or brick your device if you make a mistake. Please only follow these instructions carefully after backing up any data you need. Proceed at your own risk.
Prerequisites:
- Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S Flashing Requirements: Before you flash your Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S firmware, you have to make sure of the following:
- Make Sure to Download the Correct Firmware: You must download the official Redmi Note 9S firmware from a reliable source, and also check whether it matches your device model to avoid software conflict.
- Install Required Drivers Install MediaTek USB VCOM drivers on your PC. These are basic drivers that allow SP Flash Tool to easily detect and connect your device.
- Check Enough Battery: Your phone must have more than 50% Battery for the flashing process, as any hiccup will leave your phone bricked.
- Backup Important Data: Flashing firmware can cause data loss on your phone including apps, messages, contacts, and personal files. Before continuing, make sure to back up your key files, contacts, and settings using Xiaomi Cloud, Google Drive, or a local backup tool.
- Use a Good Quality USB Cable: A bad or cheap USB cable can cause interruptions while flashing. Use an original, or as good as one, USB-type cable; this is really for stable data transmission.
Flash the Firmware on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S with the SP Flash tool
Jump To Step 1
- Download and Extract SP Flash Tool
- Download the updated SP Flash Tool from a reputed website.
- Unzip the ZIP file to a convenient location on your computer, such as the desktop or a folder set for the purpose.
- Install MediaTek VCOM Drivers [Section 2]
- Now the SP Flash tool folder which we extracted.
- Go to the Driver sub-folder.
- Run the Install. A short batch .bat file to install the MediaTek USB VCOM drivers. Handle installation fails with run as Administrator!
One thing you may want to do is restart your PC in case the drivers have not yet been installed or recognized.
Step 2:
- Launch the SP Flash Tool
- Find the flash_tool and run it. Find the SP Flash Tool.exe file in the SP Flash Tool folder.
- Open it as Administrator so you will never have any permission-related problems, and will run properly.
Step 3:
- Load the Scatter File
- Now inside the SP Flash Tool, click on the Scatter-loading button.
- Open the extracted firmware folder and choose the scatter file (which often has a name like MTxxxx_android_scatter. txt).
- As seen, it contains the partition details & flashing commands for the device.
Step 4:
- Reference Link Flashing Options
- After loading the scatter file, you will see a list of partitions on the left pane of the tool.
- By default, all partitions are selected. To do a full firmware flash, leave all ticked.
- Avoid dragging again if you are not formatting and upgrading. Make sure that the two flashing states of flashing mode are down only.
- If you are flashing only the firmware one can select some partitions like system, boot, and user data so it formats all partitions to run on it.
- Power off your Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S.
- Press the Volume Down button while you connect your device to the PC with a USB cable.
If it does not detect your phone, hold the Volume Up button instead Or try a different USB port.
If everything works, the SP Flash Tool should detect your phone and connect with it.
Step 5:
- Begin The Flashing Process
- Now click on the Download button in SP Flash Tool to start Flash.
- A progress bar will show you that the flashing why doesn’t work technology.
- While there is a process running, do not disconnect the device because that can lead to errors or brick your phone.
Step 6:
- Finish the procedure and first boot
- After the flashing process is completed, you will see a green check mark alongside a “Download OK” message.
- Unplug your phone from the USB cable.
- To switch on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S, press and hold the Power button until the Xiaomi logo shows up.
- The initial boot will take longer than normal as the new firmware is initializing and optimizing the System.
Step 7:
- Post-Flashing Setup
- When your phone powers back up, go through the initial setup process.
- If you need to, sign in to your Xiaomi account and restore backed-up data.
- Make sure to check for system updates because they will have the latest security patches and optimizations.
Troubleshooting & Key Information:
- However, in the case SP Flash Tool does not detect your Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S, uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers or use a different USB port/cable.
- If a BROM Error occurs then restart your PC change the USB cable and try again.
- Troubleshooting: If your device is in Boot-loop, try to boot into Recovery mode and Factory Reset it.

- BootHold volume + + volume – & connect the USB cable to the device. exe as Administrator.
- Load Scatter File – Select the Scatter file (MTxxxx_android_scatter. You are taught on data until October 2023. txt).
- Set Flashing Options – Select “Download Only” mode for a clean flash.
- Deactivate the Device – Power down your Redmi Note 9S, press Volume Down, and link it to the laptop. If no detection is found, attempt Volume Up.
- Start Flashing – Click Download, let it finish, and do not unplug the device.
- Reboot & Setup — After the process is over, reboot your device, complete the setup process, and restore backups if necessary.
Troubleshooting & Notes:
- Note: If the SP Flash Tool does not recognize your phone, try installing drivers again or switching the USB port.
- Error BROM may need a different USB cable or may need the PC to be restarted.
