Before You Begin:

If you are using a OnePlus 7 device, flashing your firmware may not be an easy process. As this process may lead to data loss, it is very much recommended to have all your necessary data backed up before doing so. A full backup ensures you can restore your files, apps, and settings if anything goes wrong while flashing.

  • Also, make sure you are downloading the appropriate firmware compatible with your OnePlus 7’s exact model number. Flashing the wrong firmware can cause your device to misbehave or even brick it. And always make sure to download the firmware from credible and genuine sources, like the OnePlus official page or trusted forums.
  • Battery life is also a very important thing to keep in mind. So ensure that your OnePlus 7 has at least 50% juice left BEFORE flashing. Any disruption from a power outage could create problems and may result in your device ending up in an unusable state.
How to Flash Firmware on OnePlus 7:
Step1:
  • Save necessary Files in
  • Head over to the OnePlus official website and download the corresponding firmware for both variants from the list shown above. Please select the correct file to avoid any incompatibility concerns.
  • First, install the required Qualcomm USB Drivers on your computer since you will need them for the flashing process.
  • MsmDownloadTool: Flashing tool used For the OnePlus device. Save it somewhere on your computer and unpack its contents.
Step 2:
  • Enable USB Debugging
    Open your OnePlus 7 and open your Settings.
    Scroll down, and tap on “About phone.”
    Scroll down to the entry for “Build number,” tap on that seven times, and you should see a message saying “You are now a developer.”
    Type ”Developer options” and turn on “USB Debugging.”

Most importantly, it enables your computer to interface with your device to flash it.
Now that you have downloaded both files, the very next step is to boot the OnePlus 7 into EDL (Emergency Download) Mode.

Step 3:
  • Turn your OnePlus 7 Off completely.
  • Simultaneously press and hold the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons.
  • Press and hold these buttons, then plug in your phone to your computer via USB.
  • Your phone will now enter EDL mode and the flashing can begin.
Step 4:
  • Setup the Qualcomm USB Drivers
  • Then, install the Qualcomm USB Drivers (if not installed previously). This is a very crucial step as EDL mode should be recognized correctly by your OnePlus 7 when connected to a PC.
  • Copy the Qualcomm USB Drivers to your computer.
  • Double-click the installation file and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Once you have installed the drivers, restart your computer to fully load the drivers.
Step 5:
  • Run MsmDownloadTool
  • Find the MsmDownloadTool folder that you extracted on your PC.
  • Select run as administrator upon right-hitting the MsmDownloadTool application.
  • Open the tool, and you will find there setting called Target Build.
  • Click on the “Target Build” and browse to the firmware folder downloaded before.
Step 6:
  • Link the OnePlus 7 to Your PC
  • Boot your OnePlus 7 into EDL mode (refer to Step 3).
  • In MsmDownloadTool, press the Start button.
  • Press “Start” while holding the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons and connect your OnePlus 7 to the computer with a USB cable.

If everything has been done correctly, then the MsmDownloadTool will recognize your device and initiate the flashing process.

Step 7:
  • Allow Flashing to End
  • When the process starts, the MsmDownloadTool will show the progress bar.
  • Do not power off your device or interrupt the process as this can cause an incomplete installation or a bricked device.
  • The entire process should take several minutes depending on your system.
Step 8:
  • Reboot Your OnePlus 7
  • When the flashing is finished, MsmDownloadTool will display a success message.
  • Disconnect your OnePlus 7 from the PC.
  • You should press and hold the power button until you see the OnePlus logo and the device booting.

The first boot will be longer than usual as the system initializes the new firmware.

Step 9:
  • Confirm that the Firmware has been Installed
  • After booting your device, go to “Settings” > “About phone” to confirm that the firmware version has been updated.
  • Assuming all is as it should be, then proceed with configuring your device.
Important Reminders:
  1. Note: Before flashing your device make sure that the battery is charged at least 50% otherwise your device may be shut down during the flashing process.
  2. Backup Your Data: This will wipe all data from your device. Before proceeding, make sure to back up any important files, contacts, and settings.
  3. Follow Instructions Carefully: The flashing process is not without risks, and if you perform the steps incorrectly, it may lead to issues like boot loops or even bricked devices.
  4. Download Recovery and Firmware from Trusted Sources: Only download the recovery and firmware file from the official OnePlus website or other reliable sources to not corrupt the files or risk the software.
  5. Check for Exact Match: Ensure that the firmware you are downloading corresponds to the exact OnePlus 7 model you own to avoid compatibility issues.
