All flashing of firmware can be done correctly — but is also highly dangerous. If it goes wrong, it can cause irreversible data loss or, in a worst-case scenario, make your device unbootable, or “bricked.” Warning: Follow these steps at your own risk, read them thoroughly, and make a backup of important data before you try to do this.
Prerequisites:
Battery Charge:
- Fully charge your device, because your device should have at least 50% of battery while flashing the ROM.
USB Drivers:
- MediaTek USB VCOM drivers required to connect your device with SP Flash Tool must be installed on your PC.
Download Necessary Tools and Firmware
Step 1
Download SP Flash Tool:
- To flash the firmware on your device, you will need a software called SP Flash Tool, download the latest version from the official site.
Download Firmware:
- Important: Download Stock firmware for Xiaomi Redmi 10A from a working source.
Flashing Process:
Step 2:
Install USB Drivers
Make sure you have the MediaTek USB VCOM drivers installed on your computer. These drivers are important for killing communication of SP Flash Tool and your Xiaomi Redmi 10A properly.
Step 3:
Download And Extract The Firmware
Download Firmware:
- Download the official stock firmware for your Xiaomi Redmi 10A from the trusted and reputed website.
Extract the Firmware Package:
- Download the firmware and extract it to a location on your computer. Extract the file using WinRAR, 7-Zip, or a similar program. That would give you access to all the necessary files, including the scatter file.
Step 4:
Launch the SP Flash Tool
Run SP Flash Tool:
- Go to the SP Flash Tool folder on your PC and open the application as admin. This allows the tool to access the required permissions to run the flash process.
Step 5:
Load the Scatter File
Choose the Scatter File:
- Then click on the Scatter-loading button in the SP Flash Tool.
- Next, navigate to the directory where you extracted the firmware and double-click on the scatter file (generally it is named MTxxxx_Android_scatter. Txt (where “xxxx” is replaced with the specific chipset model).
- The scatter file is a text file defining the partition layout of your firmware and tells where all the files should reside.
Verify the Scatter File:
- If you do not have any idea of the scatter file, you can pass this command in the terminal or command line to find out:
- cat *.txt
Step 6:
Set Flashing Preferences
Check Flash Partitions:
- After loading the scatter file it shows the list of partitions to be flashed by SP Flash Tool.
- You can select which partitions to flash. Make sure to choose just the needed ones, like system and recovery. Proceed at your own risk—flashing the wrong partition can brick your device.
Select Flashing Mode:
- Be sure to select “Download Only” or “Firmware Upgrade”.
- “Download Only” is the safest option, and prevents any user data from being erased while simply updating the firmware.
- Refrain from using “Format All + Download” unless your device is having serious problems, as this will wipe all data off your device.
Step 7:
Connect Your Device
Power Off Your Device:
- Now disconnect your Xiaomi Redmi 10A from the computer and turn it off completely.
Enter Flashing Mode:
- Click the Download button on the SP Flash Tool.
- Then you’ll have to connect your device to the computer with a USB cable and hold Volume Down (or whatever button combination is specified). This should bring your device into Download Mode / Bootloader Mode.
Step 8:
Start the Flashing Process
Flashing in Progress:
- Get your device into the right mode, and the flash should start automatically. In SP Flash Tool, you would notice the progress leading you in the process.
Wait for Completion:
- Flashing typically takes a few minutes to complete. When the flashing has finished, you will see a green circle with the message “Download OK”. This is the part that flashed the firmware onto your device.
Step 9:
Finish and Reboot
Unplug the Device:
- Once the flashing process is done, remove your Xiaomi Redmi 10A from the computer.
Power On the Device:
- Power on your device. It may take some time for the system to configure itself, the first boot post and image flash will be longer than average. This is quite a long process, so be patient.
